Deutsche Schule Melbourne is a German-English bilingual primary school in Melbourne. Our school is located in the suburb of Fitzroy North, which is about 4.5 km north of the city. We are currently a primary school offering the Foundation Year to Year 6. From 2026, Deutsche Schule Melbourne will offer a seamless transition into Secondary School. We'll start with Year 7 in 2026 and will then build up classes all the way to Year 12. As a leaving certificate, we will be offering the International Baccalaureate (IB).
DSM is an extraordinary blend of an Independent Victorian School and an accredited German School Abroad. We take great pride in our bilingual and bicurricular approach, offering education in both English and German through the Victorian and the German curricula. This dual-language and dual-curriculum model lies at the heart of our school, giving our students invaluable skills and experiences that will last a lifetime. But our uniqueness goes far beyond these academic features.
We are a value-driven, community-informed school that thrives on diversity and bringing people together. Guided by a consultative decision-making process, we actively involve all members of our school community as educational partners, working together to shape the ongoing development of our school. We encourage critical thinking, honest feedback and appreciate healthy debates, enabling us to make well-rounded and considerate decisions as we strive to get even better.
DSM is intentionally small. We know and respect each other. We are kind and honest with each other. Integrity is central to us. We trust each other. Together with our families, we foster a strong sense of identity and belonging for our students and the wider community.
Our students, teachers, and staff genuinely love coming to school each day. We provide a welcoming learning environment where students feel safe and appreciated for who they are. We support and challenge our students, encourage them to take risks, be critical thinkers, share and receive feedback, and see mistakes as for what they are, wonderful learning opportunities. This approach helps our students grow, build resilience, and prepare for whatever paths they choose in life.
DSM Accelerated Pathway
Deutsche Schule Melbourne offers an Accelerated Pathway for children without prior German language skills. The DSM Accelerated Pathway gives students the language skills they need to join our school’s main immersion program within 6-18 months. But your child won’t just learn a second language. By applying learning from both Victorian and German curricula, our students develop the problem-solving and conceptual thinking skills they need to flourish in a complex world. Students will receive individualised support through staff who specialise in differentiation to prepare them for a smooth transition into the mainstream program. If your family has been thinking about a bilingual education but haven’t yet made the leap, get in touch with us.
