Guildford Grammar School

Guildford WA

Guildford Grammar School is one of Western Australia’s leading independent, co-educational day and boarding schools. Set on an expansive 78-hectare heritage listed campus along the banks of the Swan River (Derbal Yerrigan), the School is steeped in history, guided by values and driven by a strong vision to prepare students for a life of purpose.

Founded in 1896, Guildford Grammar has grown to become a truly inclusive and future-focused learning community. From Early Learning to Year 12, every student is encouraged to explore their potential, pursue their passions and develop the skills they need to thrive in an ever-evolving world.

At the centre of a Guildford Grammar education is a commitment to excellence, not just in academic achievement, but in personal growth, community contribution and character development. Our students are inspired to become independent thinkers, problem solvers and innovators, equipped with curiosity and confidence to lead meaningful lives.

As a proudly co-educational school, we reflect the diversity and collaboration of the real world. Boys and girls learn and grow together in an environment built on mutual respect, equity and inclusion. We value each student as an individual and work in partnership with families to ensure they are supported, challenged and celebrated.

Grounded in Anglican faith and shaped by five core values – excellence, respect, integrity, compassion and spirituality – Guildford Grammar offers a nurturing and purpose-led environment where students are encouraged to engage with their whole self: academically, physically, socially and spiritually.

An Age and Stage Approach to Learning

Guildford Grammar is purposefully designed to meet the academic, behavioural and wellbeing needs of students at every age and stage of their development. From our youngest learners to our graduating Year 12s, we provide tailored environments and programs that support growth, belonging and success – both in the classroom and beyond.

Our Preparatory School encompasses Little Explorers, Early Learning and Years 3-6, offering a warm vibrant and engaging setting where curiosity is encouraged and foundational skills are nurtured. With a strong focus on connection, confidence and creativity, these early years lay the groundwork for lifelong learning.

The transition into Senior School is supported by our dedicated Years 7-8, a space intentionally designed to ease students into a more independent learning environment while maintaining a high level of pastoral care. These younger Senior School students remain connected to their House, developing early relationships and identity within their House group, even before entering the physical House spaces in Year 9. This structure provides a strong sense of belonging while also giving students room to grow into the responsibilities of senior life.

From Years 9-12, students move into their dedicated House spaces. A system deeply embedded in the culture and spirit of Guildford Grammar. The House system plays a vital role in student wellbeing and leadership, with House Captains and peer mentors cultivating friendships, connection and a sense of belonging that often endures well beyond graduation. For many students and alumni, their House forms a cornerstone of their identity and school pride.

We recognise that ever student’s journey is different and that personal excellence takes many forms. Our personalised Pathways program ensures that students in Senior School are supported to pursue the path that’s right for them – whether they are university-bound, seeking a vocational pathway, exploring entrepreneurship or developing real-world skills through alternative opportunities.

The Power of Participation

A defining feature of a Guildford Grammar education is the breadth of opportunities available outside the classroom. We believe participation is the key to unlocking potential and that learning continues far beyond academic lessons.

Our compulsory Sport program is central to this philosophy. All students from Years 5 to 12 participate in organised sport as an integral part of school life. This commitment sets Guildford Grammar apart – instilling values of teamwork, grit, discipline and perseverance that extend into every area of a student’s life.

Through sport, students face challenge, build resilience and learn how to lead and support others. These are life lessons, not just game-day skills. Whether on the athletics track, in the pool or on the field, students develop a strong sense of identity, camaraderie and pride – qualities often described as Guildford Grit.

Beyond sport, our co-curricular program offers extensive opportunities in the arts, music, outdoor education, leadership, service and clubs. Every student is encouraged to find their niche, explore new interests and make the most of every opportunity that comes their way.

Boarding Life in the Heart of Perth, with the Spirit of the Bush

Framed by native bushland and the banks of the Swan River, our 78-hectare campus offers space to breathe and room to grow. For many boarders from farming and remote communities across Western Australia, it feels familiar – a place that reflects the outback landscapes they know, with the privilege of a world-class education close to hand.

The boarding experience is shaped by connection, care and character. Students live and learn alongside friends who become like family, supported by dedicated staff and a structured environment that balances independence with routine.

Conveniently located just minutes from Perth Airport, our campus is closer to home that it seems, making travel simple and keeping families connected. Whether it’s a weekend visit, a quick airport run or just knowing your child is within reach, the location provides peace of mind.

Boarders are deeply woven into school life, with full access to co-curricular programs, leadership opportunities and personalised academic support. It’s a place to belong, where students can stay grounded in, they are while stepping into everything they can become.

A Culture of Character and Care

Every aspect of school life at Guildford Grammar is underpinned by a commitment to pastoral care. We understand that students thrive when they feel known, valued and supported, which is why our approach is built on strong relationships and a whole-school wellbeing model.

From the early years through to graduation, students have access to tailored support systems that promote emotional, social and mental wellbeing. Our staff are attentive and proactive, working together to ensure every student feels safe, included and empowered to be themselves.

Chapel life plays an important role in cultivating community and reflection. As an Anglican school, we welcome students of all faiths and backgrounds and encourage open dialogue, spiritual growth and shared purpose. Our much-loved Congo Chapel service is a hallmark of school culture, a time for students to come together, express themselves and celebrate community in a joyful and uplifting setting.

A Future Built on Purpose

Guildford Grammar is a school with strong foundations and a clear vision for the future. Our Master Plan sets the direction for the next stage of growth, with transformative facilities designed to support innovation, sustainability and student success for generations to come.

The future-facing mindset is matched by a strong sense of heritage. With a legacy enduring 129 years, we honour the traditions, people and stories that have shaped our School, while always looking forward with ambition and intent.

Our students graduate not only with a strong academic foundation, but with the confidence, character and values to make a meaningful contribution to the world. They are the leaders, changemakers and citizens of tomorrow – grounded in Guildford Grit and ready for whatever comes next.
