Sacred Heart Girls’ College is a Catholic secondary school, established by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions (RNDM) in 1957. While the Sisters no longer administer the college, their influence endures in our school’s faith and academic life. Inspired by their charism, we seek to honour each person’s uniqueness and gifts — by enriching spirituality and celebrating our Catholic identity and heritage; by promoting excellence in learning and wellbeing; and by fostering a safe community where all are treated with respect and dignity.
The college provides a dynamic environment that educates young people to be compassionate, discerning, resilient and true to our motto, Always Striving Upwards.
An inclusive heart
Sacred Heart Girls’ College is an inclusive, vibrant and diverse community with a commitment to living faith and social justice. We promote and demonstrate outward looking leadership and service and challenge each student to discover their personal attributes and strengths. Our students engage with local and global issues and are encouraged to be innovative and responsive to a changing world. The college adopts ethical and responsible practices that ensure sustainable use of resources.
Wellbeing is an integral part of a student’s learning journey and our comprehensive wellbeing program includes student support and counselling services, academic and career guidance, peer support and a big sister/little sister program.
An inquisitive heart
Our curriculum is designed to foster personal excellence and to develop life-long learners who are curious and resourceful. We have a proud history of academic success, and a school culture that focuses on maximising each student’s personal learning growth. Working with families, we cater for a diverse range of student abilities and interests, including individually tailored support programs and enrichment opportunities for highly able students.
Our core and elective subjects cover all learning areas, allowing our students to pursue their passions and discover new areas of interest. By providing context for learning and connecting what happens in the classroom with real-life applications, the college aims to develop a love of learning and foster intrinsic motivation in students. Beginning with a broad program in Year 7, students finalise their language choice in Year 8, before choosing elective subjects to complement their core program in Year 9. In Year 10, invited students may apply for early entry into specific VCE studies if they meet the prescribed criteria for acceleration. We also offer VCE Vocational Major.
Students have access to a range of technologies that are seamlessly and purposefully integrated throughout the curriculum and they are provided with a college-issued laptop in Years 7 and 10.
Dedicated teachers will support your daughter to become an independent learner in flexible and stimulating learning spaces designed to maximise student engagement.
An adventurous heart
Our curriculum focuses on the development of the whole person: spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally and physically.
Sacred Heart Girls’ College encourages students to take up new challenges in and out of the classroom. With a highly regarded music program offering opportunities for individual and ensemble performances; a variety of sporting teams; an extensive outdoor learning program and our Year 9 STRIVE program, Sacred Heart Girls’ College will inspire your daughter to make the most of her secondary schooling.
