The new Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES) provides high-achieving and high-ability senior students from across Victorian government schools with opportunities for extension, acceleration and enrichment in their overall VCE program.
We offer specialised programs on-site and online through a $27.5 million state-of-the-art facility in South Yarra. Our innovative virtual learning environment enables our students to study at CHES from anywhere in Victoria.
As a co-educational centre of excellence in senior secondary education, we’re committed to:
- providing enrichment and extension opportunities to stretch and challenge students
- expanding access to first-year university studies (higher education studies) for high-ability and high-achieving government school students.
This includes:
- students in metropolitan, rural, regional and remote areas
- students from disadvantaged backgrounds
- strengthening teacher capacity across Victoria to meet the needs of high-ability and high-achieving students.
- Algorithmics Units 3 & 4
- Extended Investigation Units 3 & 4
- English Language Units 1–4
- Specialist Maths Units 1–4.
In addition, we offer a wide range of university courses (higher education studies) each year through university partnerships. Full details are on the CHES website, including the application process.
In 2024, CHES is offering three specialised Year 10 enrichment electives on research, critical thinking and algorithmics. These provide a strong foundation for future studies of VCE Extended Investigation and VCE Algorithmics.
