Good Schools Spotlight: Penrhos College
Penrhos College is a Uniting Church day and boarding school for girls, Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12, located south of the river in Como, Perth, Western Australia.
We believe girls have the best opportunity to thrive in a single-sex environment, free from gender stereotypes and expectations. Our focus is on nurturing and inspiring the mind, heart, body and spirit of each student to promote her strength of character and courage of conviction — our students are empowered to explore their potential, find their niche and move into adulthood with the confidence to successfully navigate life’s opportunities and challenges.
Facilities
Our facilities and grounds are outstanding. Our world-class Rixon Theatre boasts a 700-seat auditorium, with orchestra pit, drama studio, green rooms and dressing rooms.
The three-level, state-of-the-art Creative Arts and Design Centre is designed to inspire our students’ interests in food, textiles, art, photography, media, design and technology.
Our new Meg Melville Science Innovation Centre opens in January 2021 — this latest centre of excellence is designed to stimulate girls to pursue their STEM-based interests in an open and collaborative state-of-the-art learning space, in preparation for a lifetime exploration and inquiry.
Academic
Penrhos is recognised for its personalised learning approach; our students consistently achieve excellent academic results and the College consistently ranks in the top 11 on the ATAR leader board.
Penrhos’ ELC and Junior School provide a happy and stimulating environment for play-based learning and discovery, in which our younger girls are engaged in identifying, exploring and solving real-world problems in preparation for Secondary School. Girls perform best when they feel they belong, so we focus on warmth and kindness from day one. In a recent survey, our youngest students told us ‘love grows here’ — that’s all we need to know.
Wellbeing and resilience
We recognise that personal wellbeing underpins every girl’s success and achievements. Based on the principles of positive psychology, our pastoral framework and practices are designed to support and develop our students as independent, resilient young women.
Co-curricular
Our out-of-the-classroom activities provide a healthy balance to our rigorous academic program, with opportunities to explore interest and discover potential in sport, music, speech and drama, debating, art and more. Penrhos is also proud to be a member of the Independent Girls’ Schools’ Sport Association (IGSSA), which provides quality sporting opportunities at varying levels of competition and is an international member of the Round Square Organisation, a collective of 220 like-minded schools across 50 countries focused on real-world learning experiences.
Scholarships and bursaries
Our comprehensive suite of scholarships and bursaries is designed to both recognise individual strengths and to meet the needs of our proudly diverse community. If your daughter has outstanding academic or co-curricular ability or is an all-round good citizen with enthusiasm for learning and personal growth, please contact us to find out more.
