How to help your child in the weeks before their final exams
  • The final few weeks before their final year 12 exams can be a really stressful time for kids.
  • Here are some tips in supporting your kids during this time

Set clear goals

Help them to focus on the things that they actually have time to focus on.

If there is one subject that seems to need a bit more time spent on it, if your child wants to do well, then spend a bit more time on it. Some subjects they may love, so it is better if they spend a bit less time on it. Loving a subject relaly helps to keep more information locked in because your kid will be naturally more interested in lessons, completing homework and studying.

A helpful way to focus on setting clear goals can be to break down each subject by the things that they do know and that they don't. A big long list makes it clear all the tasks that need to be ticked off, which can be fun to tick off once completed, and helps to set out exactly what needs to happen to make sure everything gets done.

Creating a study schedule

A well-structured study schedule is essential for staying on track.

Work with your child to develop a timetable that allocates time for each subject, ensuring that they have time to spend a good amount of attention to areas where they need improvement.

Sticking to a routine can help them reduce the temptation to procrastinate.

Help them find a good balance

Encourage your kid to spend some time doing things other than studying. Their downtime could be watching some TV, reading a book, going for a walk, or a quick swim at the beach.

Whatever it is encourage them to find something that can help them relax their mind a little bit so they are still fresh before they walk into their exams.

Powering through until the final exam of year 12 can be really difficult. It requires the most perserverance msot children have yet to experience in their life.

You can help your kid succeed to the best of their ability by supporting them through a time that is hard to navigate alone.

They have almost made it to the end!
