How to react when your kids are getting awards at school and when they aren't
The end of the year can be hard as a parent. Its usually a busy time for work, with things needing to finish up before the holidays. There are school holiday activites to organise, family get togethers to arrange and school homework, reports, and assemblys to attend.
That's why making sure your kids feel accomplished no matter how well they achieved throughout the school year can easily fall to the side a bit.
Here are some tips on how to help your child through the exitement of getting an award, and how to keep them motivated if they are not receiving an award.
When they are getting an award
Getting an award at school is a really exciting time.
An award can feel like the ultimate reward after working really hard throughout the school year.
So firstly make sure you congratulate them! Then see if there is some sort of award ceremony, assembly or final end of year assembly that you can see them get the award.
Having a parent see you get an award is just as good as the award itself!
When they aren't getting an award
Not getting an award, particularly if a sibling is getting one can be hard for a kid.
It can also be hard if they have worked hard and improved. Making sure they still feel congratulated for a long year of work is important.
Take them out for a special treat, and if you can, turn up for their final year assembly. And same goes as before, seeing your parent turn up can be an even better reward than an award itself.
